After 12 years with the Newfoundland, we decided to fulfill our daughter’s dream by giving her own dog to show in conformation. The Clumber Spaniel, resembling the Newfoundland in behavior but half the weight, completely charmed us. Although this breed is among the first registered with the AKC and CKC, it remains rare and less known. The Clumber is the largest and most clownish of spaniels. This hunting dog, low and massive, is designed to flush game hidden in the bushes and is an excellent retriever. Not being hunters, we engage in conformation and tricks dog activities with our dogs, who are also excellent couch potatoes. They are not kennel dogs; they need human presence and are truly extraordinary life companions for both adults and young children. Our dogs are all tested and OFA certified, as well as Canadian champions, and have also been presented in the USA. Socialization is also of paramount importance to us.
